[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have used cabot stain on my home for years and have had good luck and will use it again the next time I stain my home
Not sure why I read so many bad reviews.....I have had nothing but great experiences with the timber oil!!!!always looks great and protects the wood really good!!!!
If you are a DIY'er, you are responsible for the proper application of this product. Poor surface preparation is the number one cause of issues with any outdoor finish product. This is a good product. It is not the best nor the most expensive, but it is very good. Another thing to note is no finish lasts more than a few years, ever. This is something that must be reapplied every few years. The first coat may need reapplication after the first year. Remember proper surface preparation is key. So is proper application. There are three elements: Surface preparation, Product application, and Product quality. You are given a quality product, surface prep and product application are on you, the homeowner.
Bought this weekend to apply to a new deck installed late spring. Used a pad applicator for the first coat and every single spot I lifted the applicator left a dark mark, and other dark sections. Some sections barely took any color and stayed light. The Honey Teak is about 10 shades darker than the sample on pine. The finish is almost a like a urethane you would see on a wooden bartop from the 80's. Upon applying a second coat, there were areas the stain wasn't able to soak in and let what looks like droplets. It's absolutely horrible. Bob Vila's site promoted this as the best option for a new deck and I couldn't be any more disappointed.
First time conditioning a deck. Decided on natural timber oil. Had deck pressure washed. Began application two days later and couldn't be happier. Application of oil was surprisingly easy and lambs wool allowed for thick coat. The deck looks great. I highly recommend this product. Could not be more pleased.
