LEGO Iconic Chess 40174 Building Set (1450 Pieces)

It was shipped in its original box and was damaged. Most items I wouldn't care, but since it is a gift and discontinued it was very expensive and if we wanted to keep for collection purposes we can't.

Not a massively interesting set, but very functional and a good option for a chess set if you are into Lego.

I love having a lego set with so much replay value. The build was straight forward. We really enjoyed modifying the chess pieces to make them smaller/more streamlined (i.e. easier for gameplay/maneuverability) without losing out on some of the very pretty detailing (the knight's horse ears are adorable, and the bishop is particularly cleverly constructed). Amazing value for the number of pieces. We've played several games on it so far and everything holds up very well. The storage aspect of it is also quite clever/appreciated. Overall, as two lego and chess geeks, we're very satisfied.

I have had this thing for a bit now, and after playing 30+ chess games and 24 checkers games, I think now is a good time to do the review. Now let me start off with that build. It was, a pain, I guess, but I knew that was going to happen. You have to build sixteen pawns, with eight being white and the others black. The board took time with all the little pieces, but the end product looks good. So umm, I guess I do the figs now? The build is solid for all the builds, kind of wish that we had a way to king someone in the checkers game tho. I play chess a lot and the builds for those as I said before is good. This works well on the road also, as the studs have a stronger connection than I would have guessed for just one point.
