nuvi 50LM Automobile Portable GPS Navigator

As senior citizens we've been far behind in the new technologies but we decided to listen to our more daring friends and invested in this GPS. We found it easy to use (well almost). Still not sure why it does something when I accidentally tap it but overall it manages to get us where we want to go and the directions are easy to see. Samantha's voice is not clear enough for my husband but he could use a hearing aid anyway. If he's alone he'll just have to raise the volume. My only criticism is that it doesn't know the shortcuts for familiar places so if we were going to a town we haven't been before then we'll probably be going the long way. I'll have to spend time with it and a friend who's knowledgeable and maybe I'll learn some of the tricks to make it our own.

The GPS is great has a great screen and doesn't have all that stuff you never use like Bluetooth and music storage. It does have the split screen like the more expensive models do I was very impressed with the unit. I updated the software while it was charging for the first time. The Garmin new downloader is also easy to use.

There is no point in wasting money today - so we bought 2 refurb Garmin's with the same warranty as a brand new one and saved over $40 each. We have had botha Garmin and a TomTom in the past and truly enjoy this Garmin BEST. Big screen, ahead of time instructions, speaking street names, etc. Worth the investment of less than $70 each - and we don't need to use the data on our phone. On top of that, the lifetime maps allows us to keep up with the changes in Florida without having to reinvest regularly!

The map was showing location in Chicago, Illinoi and kep saying Locating Satellities for more than 1 hour. Not sure how this can be factory refurbished & certified. Returned to walmort store and got back money. First & last time for refurbished products.

I like the speed of operation, quick startup, and general operation. I prefer Garmin over Magellan or TomTom. With any GPS its good to get used to how it works in light traffic with lots of easy pull-off opportunities so you don't become distracted. Most of them have a simulation mode where you can experiment in your home. I'm still getting used to the finer operating nuances. I had a previous Garmin that had a female voice with a British accent - I miss that. Haven't figured out how to get it to display arrival time instead of time until arrival. I personally like to get altitude, which Garmin has - but I wish you could display several items when driving long distances including more info on waypoints - especially when you are the 'navigator' not the driver. On ANY GPS I wish they would give you the next closest address if it can't find the address you've entered.
