Definitive StudioMonitor 55 Shelf Mount, Stand Mountable, Bookshelf Speaker, 225 W RMS, Gloss Black, Wood Grain Matte Black

Bought the SM55's for the 6.5" drivers hoping for better bass in a bookshelf speaker. Very disappointed to see that they are actually 5.25" drivers. Don't know how they can list them as 6.5. Bass is no better than my Bic Venturi's at less than half the cost. Requested a response from def tech but of course no reply.

These speakers are just what I needed for music and movies. Bass is incredible for 6 1/2 woofers. Sound great with my ProMonitor 80 surround system. I still use my ProSub 80 for movies, but the SM's handle music nicely without it. I love 'em.

I have had Def Tech speakers for probably 14 or more years, and they never cease to amaze me. You can buy zillion dollar speakers for sure, but to me Definitive is as good as it gets. I bought a pair of SM55's to replace my Mythos ones in the surround position because my son was pulling on the wires of the VERY heavy Mythos ones, and we were afraid he'd really hurt himself. Anyway the SM55's do not disappoint as Definitives never do. These little guys are extremely detailed, and accurate. I am hearing things I never heard before, and definitely not with this clarity. That is the most striking thing about these speakers, the clarity is absolutely astounding to me. Anything that is thrown at these beautiful speakers is absolutely clear and projected with power. I am completely satisfied by these speakers. I just might get 3 SM65's to replace my Def Tech left/right mains and center channel. Yes they are that good! Thanks Definitive and keep up the good work.

I bought a pair around 2 years back solely relying on the rave reviews that I read everywhere around. I was apprehensive if it would suit my taste but was I wrong to ever doubt these. 2 years on and these proved to the best speakers I could have ever bought for the price. These play both music and movies with equal ease and I just love the clarity that they bring in any application. Further would like to add that these folks do know how to pamper their customers. During one of the family unions, one of the kids poked the dome of the tweeter of the left speaker. Though it did not make any difference to the sound, yet the damaged tweeter always bothered me in the back of my mind. I called up these guys to see if they would sell the replacement tweeter but hearing my case they gladly shipped one tweeter ...for FREE !

I just purchased the SM55's to compliment my Denon 3313 AVR to use almost exclusively to listen to music. I hooked them up and decided to bi-amp them. Wow!! The sound is crystal clear and natural. Great speaker for the size and price. I love Def Tech speakers and highly recommend the SM55's.
