First, I know this is an inexpensive tool, and my expectations were tempered (but hopeful). I have a snojoe snowblower, and it's been a great tool for limited light residential use (clear a 50 foot driveway a couple times per year). The Sun Joe blower/vacuum combo was purchased primarily for the vacuum function. It's all plastic, but designed well, and pretty sturdy. I tested some leaves that accumulated along the fence over the winter, and it did a decent job if they were dry and not big (picked up the maple fine, struggled with the oak). Once they went up the chute, it did shred them well. I also have a sycamore that drops prickle balls, and that's why I bought this. I hate raking them up, and inevitably I step on a bunch as I rake, and they get pushed in my kids step on them in their bare feet when playing in the backyard. Long story short, this item won't pick up prickle balls very well. If you maneuver the chute just right, it'll pick up 1 or 2 at a time, but I used it for 30 minutes and cleared maybe 25 square feet (5x5) on the outer edge of the tree line where's very few. I still like sun/snow joe, and it's not a bad product, just doesn't meet my needs. I'll need to go to gaspower if I want to ditch the rake; that 13 amp or whatever size motor it is just isn't enough, and I don't think any electric or battery tool would work, regardless of brand. And for anyone that uses electric power tools, remember to have the properly sized extension cord. For 100 ft cord, this requires a 12 gauge (rated for 15 amps, which I have). 14 gauge won't cut it. 3 stars is my rating; 1 star for meeting my needs. 3 star for item design and quality, and 5 star for Walmart return policy.
Sucked up everything! I have a deep basement stairwell that gets 5 feet deep easy with leaves and assorted other yard refuse. I HATED clearing it out because it took forever and was filthy and disgusting. This awesome tool cuts the job to about 15 minutes and the only part that is work for me is finding the extension cord. Tip for ease of use is make sure what you want to suck up is on the dry side. It will also help your bag last longer.
Easy to use and powerful. The cost was beyond reasonable. In fact it was cheap and of higher quality than expected. I needed something to snatch up the helicopter/maple tree seedlings that my tree drops each year on the deck and this product did the job expeditiously! Also mulches yard debris and leaves well.
This is the first product I have ever purchased from Sun Joe....a leaf blower/mulcher with a metal impeller. It has been a couple of weeks since the purchase and have used it twice and found it extremely easy to operate and assemble. The only suggestion I would have for Sun Joe is to supply a type of cleaner/brush for the impeller chamber to remove any kind of debris.....After using it, I found that some leaves that was sucked up had some mud that was sucked up as well during the leaf mulching. I was able to get most of the debris out of the chamber myself with some tools not really designed for the chamber.....but supplying a type of brush or something similar could go a long way with the products longevity. Outside of that minor pain....this product has enough suction and mulching capabilities. I will still test the blower option but from what I have seen so far....one can't go wrong using this model from Sun Joe.
The suction/mulcher is outstanding and more comfortable than my previous Toro. I especially like the wheels on the chute, though they are only useful on pavement and I usually remove them when suctioning on the grass. The collection bag is a little smaller than Toro, but easier to use. The electric blower is less powerful than the Toro, probably because the tube is shorter and hence effectively less power. Adequate for most uses, but if I have a lot of leaves I will use my old Toro for blowing, and the SunJoe for suction/mulching. That is the only reason I gave it 4, rather than 5 stars
