It does not require any tools, but depending on the area you are placing it, you may need to install some anchor points. The area underneath the shade instantly felt cooler than the outside air. It is perfect for patios, camping, or even over the top of a garden. It sways nicely with the wind and seems to be made of sturdy material. My only concern is the ropes it comes with, they come unwound easily and fray at the slightest rough surface. Ideally it may be better to provide your own sturdier rope, or take down the shade when done for the season. The packaging does say 3 years on it.
