Bought this Weed Eater about 3 months ago at my local WalMart. It started and ran fine for about 2 months, now it will only run about 10 minutes and then quits. I have no idea why. I have tried everything. I changed the gas, tried adjusting the Carb, cleaned the air filter which wasn't really dirty, after all it's only 3 months old, tried to check out the fuel filter but couldn't get to it. I guess I'm going to have to have someone fix it. This is the 3rd Weedeater brand trimmer I have owned. The 1st one was great but the last two were awful. Next time I'm going to buy another brand.
This weedeater is a piece of junk. It comes with a manufacturer defect that is the primer bulb will deteriorate in the first year, thus unable to run. The primer bulb cannot be repaired on this model!, the entire carburetor has to be replaced at 30-40 bucks not including labor! Luckily I've found how to bypass this and will be sharing with the world so people dont get screwed any longer.
The first Weed Eater Gas Trimmer that I purchased had to be returned. It wouldn't start and after several tries I found that the gasoline was leaking out at one of the hoses. I returned it to my local Walmart and exchanged it for the identical item. I used it yesterday and it started, these's no leaking gasoline, and it did a good job cutting weeds. I can only give it 4 stars because I'm hoping the first one was a lemon and that this Weed Eater will last and hold up under continued use. I'll try to remember to write an update at the end of the Summer cutting season.
Put this into service and had a major problem. It has a two piece (lower and upper section) connection with a hand tightened large rubber knob to hold it together. We ran it for several days and the connection between the two sections vibrates loose and the trimmer head starts vibrating and you must constantly stop and re-tighten it or it will destroy itself. I called the 800 number given on the packaging and they had "never heard of this problem". They refered me to a local repair facility, which I went to, saw the service manager, and was dissapointed with his assesment of the problem. He had never seen this two piece model before and declared it of poor design. He suggested I wrap "duct tape" around the connection knob to hold it together- ouch! I dumped the gas out, ran it dry, and returned it to the lawn and garden dept and got my money back. I've got two older FL 26's and have had great results, one has lasted 6 years before giving out- It won't start anymore- it has worn out the bearings and the cylinder is scored.
This unit that I purchased was easy to assemble. The unit started on the third pull. The extra spool of string is very handy and a great feature. The changing of the spool peice is very easy. The weed eater brand is now owned by Husquvarna, and I am a big fan of there products. I used the trimmer for the first time yesterday and was very pleased with it's operation. This unit replaces a dx series Homelite that was 17 years old and has cut a bunch of weeds and grass. I don't expect the weed eater brand to last as long as the Homelite, because it is not a commercial model, but these days I have a city lot and not a country setting complete with a creek bank and hill side.
