I would never have tackled the current quilt I am working on without this dye set! I am making a King sized quilt for the bed with the medium (2 1/2" finished size) hexagon and the corresponding equilateral triangles. I started the quilt at the end of last month, and I should have it finished by the end of this month. The cutting of the fabric was finished in only a couple of days, and sewing it together is going much faster than I could ever have imagined.
I have made 4 "I Spy" quilts with novelty fabric using this die. It makes short work of cutting out 200 hexagons! Also, it is very easy to lay the novelty fabric on top of the die, just where you want it, so you can capture the picture of the fabric where you want it. I love this die. It sews together very easily as well.
I've been working on a grandmother's flower garden in 1930's reproduction fabric off & on for about 10 years. Cutting one piece of fabric at a time and hand sewing each piece. In a few minutes before work I cut 60 center hexies ... maybe I will get this quilt done!
I am a big fan of English paper piecing and keep hexes going all the time trying new designs and colors. Cutting the fabrics in any one of three sizes, six at a time is so time saving. I have handwork ready to go at all times time.and some to spare if I run out before my next cutting.
This is my favorite die. I am using the 3" med. hex and I'm hand piecing (not EPP). I quickly cut out a batch of hexes from my scrap stash, use a small sq. Omnigrid ruler to mark my stitching lines, then off I go to hand piecing! There is no need to keep checking my stitching lines front and back...if the hexes are lined up, so also are the lines. I cannot believe how fast this quilt is coming together! :-). So much fun! Looking forward to using the large Hexie next.
