My five-year-old son likes this remote-controlled shark, but it is not one of his favorite toys. He's only played with it a few times since we got it about a month ago. This shark keeps his interest for less than ten minutes before he gets bored with playing with it. The controls are a bit difficult for him to control himself, so that might be some of his issues. We have only used this shark in a kiddy pool so far. It does best if it is in still water. The shark struggles to move if my kids are walking in the pool with it. It can move forward, left, right, and backward. It does move slowly. It looks cheaply made, but it has done well for us so far. Since the battery dies somewhat fast, I use rechargeable batteries in it. I dislike that the segment of the tail can twist off. My son has figured out how to take it apart, so I am constantly fixing it. The shark's teeth remove to get to the battery compartment. The battery compartment doesn't look waterproof, but I have opened it up after using it in the water, and the battery compartment is completely dry. If the screws aren't tightened completely, water could easily seep into the battery compartment.
Absolutely not worth it. It says it's "water activated" but it lasted all 2 minutes in our pool before it's stopped working. The battery area of the shark was FLOODED! Image attached to review. It completely stopped working. When it was working, the left side of the controller didn't work. The right side did work but couldn't do much. Save the hassle of your kids crying and skip this toy.
We bought it for our son and we put brand new batteries in it and put it back together and it started sinking unevenly and wouldn't work. We took it out and tried it again with a different brand new pack and the same thing happened. We followed instructions and the light just flashed on the remote. After the second time we put it in the bath and the took it out and let it sit we peeked inside to see if something was obviously wrong and the wires where they connected were rusted.
I tried this out in the bathtub, you definitely need to do this in a pool or a bigger tub. I think it will be way more fun to play with once summer gets here. It had a hard time moving in the tub but when it did move, it was really cool. The directions are pretty simple. It takes like 5 AAA batteries, which don't come with it, so you'll want to make sure you get/have some. I was a little nervous about batteries going into the water, I haven't looked in the compartment to see what they look like but I would double check to see what they look like before it's played with in the water again. Also if you need the shark to dry off, I would set it on a towel or something because water gets stuck in the crevices. I still definitely recommend this to add to fun in the pool.
Maybe we got a defective one cause our shark died just about a minute after he went into the water. Even in the short time it worked it moved slowly. I used brand new batteries in the remote and the shark. Both my kids and myself were very excited to try out this toy as we had seen one at a previous pool party . It was disappointing , I opened up the shark and the area with the battery was flooded with water, I removed everything and towel dried it as much as I could and then let the shark air dry. The next day I replaced with new batteries but it was too long gone.
