Algreen Castilla 50 Gal. Rain Barrel

I do love the look of this rain barrel. I was surprised by how quickly it filled up with just one 1/2 inch rain storm. There is an easy way to connect to an overflow barrel if I want to add another. I would change the top to make the entrance for the rain water larger and the planter area smaller. The way the rain comes off my roof floods the entire top of the barrel. I also really appreciate having the hose connection at the bottom plus the spigot mid way up the barrel.

This rain barre works perfectly well, and it looks very nice. However, a standard blue barrel costs a quarter of the price, works just as well, and you can always disguise it with lattice or fence pickets. If you need it for function, go traditional. If you need it for aesthetics, this is a perfectly fine (but expensive) option.

This is the 2nd urn shaped rain barrel that I have purchased. Not only are they nice looking in the front of my house, but they are working well to help divert the water coming off the roof. I can redirect the draining water in a different direction so the bark mulch does not wash away from my front yard. Challenge at first to find the parts that are inside and need a screw driver to get them out but easy set up and sit nicely on landscape stone.

I bought the rain barrel my wife wanted because of the aesthetics, not the one I wanted because of functionality. There are 2 sealed knobs on the back of the barrel for overflow, but would be directed at the house, without modification. The knobs need to be cut to be opened, and the rain barrel does not come with an overflow hose or clamps to connect to the knobs to redirect the water away from the house. I probably will buy a different one once this one cracks over the winter or the spigot breaks. meh.

I first purchased in 2009 because it looked like terra cotta and is so attractive. Loved it but after 8 yrs the spigot went bad and needed to use the hose so decided to replace with the exact same rain barrel. Love the look and convenience of this rain barrel. Hope this one lasts as long as the first one or longer. Only thing I don't like is the top 1/2 has section that accumulates water so I drilled three holes for water to fall in barrel. I would prefer the entire top with removable screen (like 1/2 currently is) and able to open to clean if necessary.
