Boogie Down Productions: KRS-One (vocals); D-Nice, DJ Kenny Parker. Additional personnel includes: Kwame Touri, Special "K". Producers: KRS-One, Pal Joey, Sidney Mills & The Decadent Dub Team. Engineers: D-Square, Mike Nuceedar, Rebekeh Foster. Recorded at Power Play Studio, Long Island City, New York and Battery Studios, New York, New York. BDP's 1990 outing came out fresh on the heels of KRS-One's superstar collaboration, the successful STOP THE VIOLENCE--SELF-DESTRUCTION. He was also beginning the Human Education Against Lies campaign, which was to become the cornerstone of hip-hop politics. With heavy emphasis on ideology, KRS-One offered the second of his two intensely political albums, the other being THE BLUEPRINT OF HIP-HOP. "Blackman in Effect" brings the raw honesty of KRS-One spilled over a booming soundscape provided by the MC and D-Nice. Other standouts include "Ya Know the Rules," "Breath Control II," and "Ya Strugglin," the last of which sports an appearance by career activist Kwame Toure. "7 Dee Jays" features an early and rugged Heather B verse.
