Brother 2340CV Cover Stitch Machine, 1–3 Thread, Chain and Decorative Stitching

I'm still eager to put this machine to work but struggling with the tension. There really needs to be a better way to get the tension settings figured out right away. It seems to be a delicate balance. I'm watching all the videos I can find and practicing on a variety of fabrics but have not found the sweet spot yet.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this product for free from Brother in exchange for my honest opinion/review of the product. The looks of this machine I thought it was a serger and I couldn't figure out why it was not cutting the material but it is a cover stitch machine. There are so many different stitches you can do with this that it shows in the book, however it does not tell you what settings you need to put the thread/needle on to get that stitch. The basic 2 stitches that they do give you the setting information worked perfect and looks great. At first I could not get the material out/released and it would knot up under the needles inside the machine. I figured out that if you open the front cover and clip the thread that is in the looper the material will come out. The machine is sturdy and the instructions for threading the machine were very detailed. There are so many options to use this machine on....hems of tshirts, attaching lace, tape and elastic, hemming, belt loops etc. Great machine and can't wait to get some sewing done!

I've started making my own tennis clothes. My serger has coverstitch capability but it s so cumbersome to have to rethread and setup. I'm thrilled to have purchased the 2430CV. It is so easy to use and the stitch quality is very good. My new tennis skorts look so professionally finished now!!

The user manual is also user friendly. Set up is easy to follow. Various stitching, needle and tension changes easy to perform. Works just as I had hoped. Would recommend Craftsy class on Coverstitching, if additional questions persist.

This machine comes in handy for so many reasons. Tailoring: I can buy a stretch-knit shirts and pants that might be too long, or have long sleeves, and I can tailor them with this machine to fit me and shorten the sleeves. Two: you can sew any kind of fabric. I make awesome jockey shorts, and boxer style underwear out of my old T-shirts with this machine. This machine is affordable, easy to thread, and can save you money by being able to modify, mend, and create your own clothing.
