Actually a lily, this little-known, tuberous-rooted climber is native to South Africa. Growing 18 to 24 inches tall, the burnt orange flowers suspended on slender stems very much resemble Chinese lanterns. Adapts nicely to container growing and is a colorful addition to the flower border. Can be grown permanently outdoors in zones 9 and 10. Otherwise, grow as any other tender bulb and bring pots indoors, or dig and store tubers over winter.
