We've had a dyson dc17 animal for a couple of years and have been fairly happy although there are issues with the hose. We sucked up some carpet and broke a belt. My fault, time for a new belt. Went to buy a belt locally and was told that Dyson changed the design of the belt and that the replacement belt was wider. Since the belt was wider, the beater bar also had to be replaced. Instead of spending $40 for the pair I decided to try my luck with customer service. I called May 28 and complained where I was eventually told that they would replace the belt and beater bar no problem, no cost to me. It would ship out May 29 and be to me in 7-10 business days via USPS. I waited until June 11 and called to find out where the part was. I was told it had been backordered but would ship out on June 12 and be there in 7-10 business days. I called June 24 and was told that it had been shipped on the 23rd and they gave me a tracking number. I asked for a manager at that point and got voicemail so I left a message. I heard from the manager about 2 hours later and was told it shipped out on June 24th, not the 23rd. I communicated with Ms. Stanberry from Dyson that I had been lied to multiple times and why should I believe her about the most recent ship date? She said she was sorry I received misinformation but that it had been shipped. I asked her to cancel that shipment and overnight me the part which she said was impossible. For a $600 vacuum you would think customer service could actually mail a part. I wouldn't buy another Dyson if I were you unless you plan on it never having any problems.

When my sister told me about her dyson vacuum I didn't really think much of it...that was until I borrowed it when my hoover was in the shop. I was completely astounded and disgusted when I saw all the dirt that filled the clear bagless bin. The entire time I thought that my hoover was doing a fine job because it was picking up what was visible to me on my carpet. Now I realize that with a Dyson it will actually dig in the carpet and separate the fibers to dig up allergens and dirt. I would recommend this to everyone and anyone who wants clean carpet and consistent pick up! You will be amazed by what your old vacuum was leaving behind. WOW!!

A friend of mine bought this vacuum for her cleaning business. It doesn't go on after construction cleanups. We use it in the banks and so forth. When we first got it, and you turned it on, you literally had to grab a hold of it before it got away with you. It was like the vacuum was controlling you, not the other way around. It really picked up great. BUT, after about 3-4 months, the vacuum is no longer pulling you, you are struggling to push it. Very hard to push it now. We have cleaned all the filter, and canister, and still no easier to push. Doesn't seem to pick up quite as much anymore either. ALso, if you notice when you take the canister off the actual vacuum, and you push the gray button to release the top of it off the actual canister part, you will notice that the gray thing on there is like "honey combed". Well, the only way to clean this part of the vacuum is to blow it out. There's no other way to get up in there to clean it, so that it can breathe easier. This is also a pain in the you know what. With the price of the Dyson's being so EXPENSIVE, I have returned to the bissels, and they work just as good, and are very much lighter than the dyson. The dyson is way too heavy (20lbs to be exactt), to be lifting around all the time. And a whole lot easier to clean. SO in a nutshell, the dyson is pricey, suction is great for the first few months, then starts going down from there, and is not lightweight at all. BUY A BISSELL. You can not and will not go wrong. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! Take it from someone who has used both. Put those extra hundred dollars into something else.

The Dyson is the BEST vacuum that has ever been invented. Period end of story. Unbelievable suction and the accessories really work. The only thing that Dyson should add to this vacuum is a light. Other than that it's perfect.

I highly recommend this vacuum. It has great attachments, has a clean smell each time its used and the amount of dirt it sucks from the carpet is unreal. The price is a little expensive but well worth it, I promise! I love this vacuum!!!
