This barrel is large and thick-walled. Very easy to install. With a relatively light rain the first night, we collected almost 8 inches of water. I connected a soaker hose to keep the garden area under the eaves moist. After seeing it, if you're handy, maybe you can mock up one of your own with a trash can and some cheap plumbing parts, but this kit had everything you need for installation. Would recommend.
Love it! exactly what i needed.
Gardening made easier! No more dragging a hose around the yard!
The EarthMinded rain barrel is decent considering the price point, but it is very thin-walled and, in my opinion, poorly designed. The areas for placement of the water spigot and the drain assembly have no thickness available for threading, so thick rubber seals are pressed into the bore holes from the outside and the spigot and drain are threaded into the seal. It is holding at this time, but doesn't appear to be durable; time will tell. A better idea would be to have a thick walled area molded into the barrel at the drill points so that the wall itself could be threaded to receive the fittings. Also, the locations for drilling and installing the fill tube/seal are not located 90 degrees from the front of the barrel, but more like 110 degrees around the perimeter. This necessitates bending the fill hose(s) to attach them. The best highlight of this rain barrel is that it can be installed to be hose-fed from the rain gutter. This type of design is getting harder to find. Cutting the rain gutter and having it dump straight into the top of the barrel makes a splattering mess and is detrimental to your house and foundation. I recommend you avoid those systems. All-in-all, I was able to connect the barrel to catch the overflow from one of my current barrels, and it works. Another significant point, Walmart's price beat the big "A" online store price by quite a bit; and now, you can get $50 dollars cheaper than they charged me for it just a week or so ago.
