I bought an electric tiller, not this brand, in 2008 and really liked it. Power was O.K., it did a fair job once I first turned the soil with a shovel. Finally died for the third and last time. Bought this tiller which looked a lot like my old tiller. I also bought it based on the reviews. It was also much cheaper than my old tiller. This tiller is a beast. It never overheated like my old tiller. It goes thru soil without my having to shovel it first. It does not bog down in soft soil like my old tiller. Back and forth motion tills soil to 7 inches no problem. I really liked my old tiller, this tiller is 10 times better and I love it. Based on the power it has and the ease of how it goes thru the soil, I do not forsee breakdown problems that I use to have with my old tiller not this brand remember. Highly recommend.
I used this unit to prepare my vegetable garden for planting this spring; the area is about 25 by 12 feet, and has been used as a garden for the past three years. The tiller has more than enough power to break down the soil to a good depth, around 8 inches, and plow last year's leavings back into the soil as well. Assembly and operation were simple and intuitive. I will note one thing about operation: when breaking up soil for the first time since the previous fall, the unit is so light that it tends to bounce a little bit due to the powerful rotation of the tines, which requires some arm, wrist and hand strength to control. Also, I don't think I would recommend this unit for breaking up sod for the first time in starting a garden. A stronger, heavier tiller, or else manual spading of the turf, would be required for this task.
This little 8 1/2 amp tiller stands up the the big boys as far as breaking and moving surface dirt and at a cost of less than most of the rental companies for a gas powered machine. Tills down 4 to 5 inches quickly and does a good job of mixing and cultivating even crust hard packed ground. Great little machine for small projects like gardens and patch work but capable of handling larger areas as well. Highly recommended as an affordable and convenient yard tiller.
Bought this to till my garden 50' X 6' it worked GREAT. Did not have to fight it like the gas machines. My garden is up on a 4' high walled area, easy to lift it up only 30 lbs. Compact easy to get around the fruit trees. It did my whole garden area in a matter of minutes. I was having so much fun I decided to go around all my fruit trees as well and do the flower beds. Best way to use it is let if walk out away from you then pull it back. It seems to dig through the dirt best this way. Vines will get tangled on it but that is true for all cultivators/tillers. The only issue with the machine is the push button to engage the pull lever is too far down. You have to use both hands to get the unit started for a small statured person it might pull out of their hand. I am glad I bought it. It would have taken me a couple of hours by hand to do what I did in minutes with this machine. Did leak a little oil from the gear box though in shipment.
I was pleased with this product. It was easy to assemble and the directions were clear. I was able to rototill my small sized yard for grass seeding. It did the job at a low cost. I will say it was a little bit heavy and powerful for me but I was able to do the job in a couple of days.
