I have in the remodeling business for over 30 years. I always use an oil base primer, it is the foundation of a great paint job. Kilz oil based primers prevent out gassing. Out gassing is the little bubbles that appear on a wall during finish painting if a non oil base primer was used. I always use Kilz Ordorless primer if someone will be sleeping in the home that night. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Decided to paint over bright flowered glossy wallpaper with bright reds and blues. Walls had two layers of wallpaper with no primer or sizing on sheetrock. Chose to paint over rather than trying to remove. Prep work was clean wallpaper, then sand and spackled seams. Decided on two coats of oil based Kilz Oderless with 2 top coats of latex finish. Turned out Excellent. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
I've used this to cover grandma's smoke stained walls to updating all my cabinets/ woodwork to white and all projects in between. It's quality has never failed. It prevents chipping on high use surfaces while being odor free! Plus I save money buying paint because I don't need the added primer in their paint. My home builder but wall papper right on the sheetrock everywhere, so I have used this primer in a couple rooms when remodeling. Worked fine, used a disposable roller so I didn't worry about mineral spirits to clean
We decided to paint a wooden Kitchen table and chairs. I had about 1/16 of a can of original oil based Kilz and bought a gallon of the odorless oil based product. We sanded the table and chairs. The original oil based product went on fine. The odorless can was so runny it was like water. We stirred and re-stirred to no avail. The primer just kept running down the spindles of the chairs and pooling at the bottom or dropping to the floor. It was messy to work with and created more work than I bargained for. I will never again use this product!
