I was so excited when the Word Whammer was sent to us from Leap Frog to review. My son was entering Kindergarten and had just begun reading when the product arrived. The design is brilliant for the 5-ish year old! My son loves steering it as he twists, taps and spins the little device. The three included games are fun and educational and the child can even drive a car into the correct answer. The price falls right into the birthday party range and the toy is light enough to tuck into a bag or bring in the car. Like all Leap Frog products - the intuitive automatic leveling keeps the child engaged. This is a fun and helpful tool to work on phonics and spelling skills.
My preschooler got frustrated with this toy in the beginning, when she tried to do it all on her own, but after she let me show her how to use it she loved it. I love that it teaches lower case letters and short words in addition to a little counting, which I wasn't expecting. It's easy for her little hands to hold onto and use. My only complaint is that the volume is so loud, even on the lower setting, but then again the child has to be able to hear the directions. *Free sample provided in exchange for my review.
Word Whammer is a toy that kids spin, tap, twist and more to spell words, match letters and pick the correct letter sounds. It reminds me of the Bop It toy but Word Whammer is both educational and fun. At $20, I think its a neat toy for any child ages 4-6 years old, perfect to get them ready for Kindergarten and 1st grade. I gave it to my 4 year old and she immediately had the thing figured out. She is still learning so she makes a lot of mistakes but I love seeing her try and pick it back up randomly throughout the day. I like to keep it in the car and it is a great way to keep her busy while learning. I received this product to review in exchange for sharing my honest opinion.
A fun game to learn words and letters. You twist, turn, and push to select the right choices. It's a fun way to make it a more interactive process than simply pressing the correct answer. There are three different activities: you can pick rocket ride, penguins tea cup twist, and panda's bumper cars. Both of my kids really enjoyed it even though they're older than the desired demographic. Definitely a game I would recommend for the 4-5 age range and something I'd give as a gift this coming holiday season.
My son starts kindergarden in a week, so it feels a little late for kindergarden prep in our house this time around. However, he felt quite special that this package was for him to use! With in about 15 minutes of opening the Word Whammer, he informed me that he can spell cat and dog! That was quick results. However, he does already know all his letters, so that it probably a help. This will help him fully comprehend which sound is made by each letter. I am sure that this will be used throughout his first year in school.
