I had a love hate relationship with this pump. I loved everything it included. I had to return it since when I was using the battery opperated adapter it, the batteries exploded on me.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got a list of pumps and parts to select from through my insurance while I was pregnant. After asking other moms and reading reviews I decided on the medela pump in style advanced backpack. I went back to work after my baby turned 3 months so the backpack was great to store everything, take it to work or eben pump super easy in my car if I had to. The pump is secure in the backpack and won't fall out. I also got a pump bra so with the backpack in my shoulders i could even do the dishes or something while pumping.
I bought this after finding out that my insurance covers the cost partially. I had been renting a hospital-grade pump for ~2 weeks. Although this pump is not as powerful as the hospital-grade, the suction is still good and the pump is doing its job well. I just find it on the heavy side given the size of the actual pump. It's also not too noisy as I tend to pump in my bedroom and it doesn't wake up the sleeping baby. The slouch bag quality is quite decent.
I used this pump for a total of 24 months between two kids. When it worked it worked well, but then the diaphragm got a hole in it. (If you buy this pump and plan on using it for another baby, check the white diaphragm behind the pump's faceplate for signs that it will tear - get it replaced before your warranty is up!!!) Because the warranty was up I had to rent a pump (expensive, as the pump parts aren't fully compatible) while I waited to hear back from Medela, and then purchase a new pump on top of it. Customer service was kind of a joke, didn't really care that I was a second time purchaser. Offered me a discount but their price is quite a bit more compared to purchasing elsewhere so it ended up being a pitiful savings. Not even enough to remotely cover the cost of renting a pump. Essentially I've spent hundreds upon hundreds of dollars with Medela when it's all said and done. Sadly the options are limited for a double pump that has enough power to maintain my supply, so I'm stuck. Not to mention that I was told I would have my new pump in 2-3 days, day 8 and still no pump. Thanks Medela....
My new born princess was falling asleep within 5 minutes of breastfeeding and would not wake up for feeding at all..I was worried she was not getting sufficient milk and was concerned about her not gaining enough weight.I purchased a manual Medela breastpump in the beginning, which is a great product itself to express milk and feed my baby.It was working great, doing its job.Only thing is manual breast pumps are for occasional use and my wrist started hurting a lot with using the manual pump 5 to 6 times in a day. So,investing in an electric breast pump was inevitable. I searched online for whole bunch of breast pumps and compared them with each other and by searching I mean countless number of hours were spent.Amongst all the breast pumps,my search was always ending on the Medela Pump in Style Advanced breast pump.A big advice, mother to mother,if you are looking for best breast pump out there, stop your search right here right now, save yourself lot of time and energy and just go with this one. Features of Medela pump in style breast pump-- -Double pumping kit with PersonalFit breast shields -Can be plugged in or run on AA batteries -2-phase expression technology with one-touch let-down button -All parts that touch breastmilk are BPA-free -Comes with a removable cooler bag and freezer pack -Adjustable speed and vacuum knob -Includes Tote Bag/Back pack -Includes breast shields, valves, membranes, and tubing It empties my breasts within 15 minutes with the let down feature, super easy to use, hassle free cleaning, small but powerful equipment. The only problem is that its loud,so others can hear while you are pumping.I asked my husband if the noise was ok for him specially during my late night and early morning pumpings and he was totally fine with it.(I didnt want to go out of our bedroom on cold nights) I can go on and on about the good features of this product but I think I should stop here. So,look no further if you are planning to invest in a long lasting ,durable and quality product, this is the best one out there !!! Lastly,I want to add that I am taking Fenugreek,Mother's milk tea and lactation cookies to boost my milk supply.
