This is a replacement for an older WR300. I like it because I can set the alert sound a little lower so it is not so jarring when it goes off on the nightstand during the night. It is a little difficult to set the counties for the alerts and even more so for the alert types. Overall it is well worth it. I do have several other weather radios -- mainly WR120s -- but they are too loud to have near the bed.
The Midland 300 unit I received was faulty. Clock radio worked fine and listening to the weather was fine, but when a flood warning was posted for my area the alarm did not go off and no message was received. Reception was not the problem because my next door neighbor who has a different Midland model worked just fine and I double checked the S.A.M.E. codes I programmed with his. As always, Walmart made returning it to the store quick and easy. I will probably try the 120 model and see how it goes.
I bought this for my mother who was really wanting an am/fm radio. I thought having the weather alert would be a great bonus. Turns out the weather report comes in well but the am/fm barely gets any stations. The few that do come in sound like they’re traveling through a tin can.
My old Midland Weather Alert Radio finally died after 15+ years of service. Naturally, I thought I couldn't go wrong with purchasing another Midland to replace it. Through the many waves of severe weather we have experienced this spring, this new Midland radio has performed great. This model has more bells and whistles than I need, but has been well worth the price for the reliability and peace of mind. Thanks Midland. I hope this one lasts as long as the last one.
I bought the emergency radio after our last electrical outage. My criteria was that it had to have emergency notification, run on ac with a battery backup. In less than a month I have received two emergency notices. Neither one directly affected me, but it is nice to know that I have a notification if/when an emergency happens.
