Overall this mattress pad is very good and comfortable. I bought this mattress pad because it has a 300-thread count cotton. The thread count is what makes the difference when buying sheets or other bedding. The stitching design will help keep it strong. It's your typical thickness. I would say it's about 1/2 inch. It has a very deep side for deep mattresses. I would buy it again.
This was purchased in queen size to go on a new mattress in our guest room. It is not a super thick mattress, but this never fit quite right and I should have taken it back. The sides are a very flimsy netting not cloth all the way down. After the first washing it fit even worse. Today, just over a year later, the side netting completely tore away from the top pad and I have to purchase a new one. (I do have to say with the big hole at least it fits the mattress better until my new one arrives :)
This mattress pad is just perfect. It has a generious fit and the plushness of the top makes the cover very comfortable.
Some have said in other reviews that you can hear the "plastic" krinkle. When it arrives, run it through the gentle cycle and this will remove that stiffness that you hear crackling. Then you'll have a plush pad. Made of durable material with exceptionally deep pockets, making up the bed is easy. The 300 count is just fine for a pad. Cover it with a nice sheet and it'll hold up well. We expect this pad to last a long time. For the money, it's a great deal. You can spend more, but why? You'll sleep very comfortably and still have $ in your pocket.
This mattress pad was quite cheap ($15) and -- most importantly -- had great reviews, so I ordered it. When it arrived and I opened the package, and was immediately taken aback by how stiff and crinkly the top layer was. I had to double check that it was 300 count 100% cotton on the top. Yes, that's what the package said. I thought that washing it might help, but it was basically the same afterwards. Still, I wanted to try it out on the bed for a few nights anyway, in case it turned out to work OK after all. I had a lot of trouble getting it on the mattress and eventually I noticed that it was narrower in the middle than at the corners, and when I got my measuring tape, well, do you want to guess what it showed? 56 inches in the middle, and not 60 as advertised (though towards the head and foot of the bed it was closer to 60). Not sure if they sent me a defective one or if they all run a little small, but combined with the rough feel of the top layer, I am not interested in getting another one and I'm about to go return it. What a disappointment! It's only $15, but save your money and your sanity and do yourself a favor -- just get one that fits well and feels nice... and unfortunately that's not this one.
