Camera appears to be an open box/refurbished item. Generic battery received instead of original Nikon battery. Also it did not include Nikons warranty as indicated on Walmart website. Called supplier who sent me a third party warranty. Otherwise nice camera that functions well with everything I tested.
When we got the shipment, the box with the camera in it was not sealed. Inside the wrapping and packaging didn't appear like they were original packaging. There was no manufacturer warranty card either. The zoom didn't function properly and very slow to respond. Very disappointed that we received either a refurbish or returned item instead of brand new camera as we expected. We had to return it. Now is waiting for refund...
--Pros-- Lighter than I thought it would be! Autofocus is fast. Has US AC wall adapter though the EU one is attached overtop in shipping and was a pain to get off. Thought I was going to break the US one underneath Zoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom Picture quality even at 16mp is great. I have a 24mp D3200 and was worried about the lesser amount of pixels, but nah its all good. --Cons-- Low light auto focus is bad. Taking pictures of the bright moon is great, but the only thing you'll be doing in low light are long exposures with this guy (I posted some long exposures for you to see.
I actually use this camera professionally to take realtor photographs and have found the sharpness, color, and clarity to be excellent. While more expensive cameras come with interchangeable lenses, this makes them unnecessary, since so many choices are built in. Even the built in flash has proven to put out more than enough light, avoiding the need of attaching external flash units. Although many are drawn to the extreme zoom lenses, I find the wide angle the most effective, and more useful. It is 24mm, and any wider causes barrel distortions. The other features that I love, are it's light weight, long battery life, image stabilization (essential with a telephoto lens), CMOS processor (high megapixels are misleading unless the camera can process them), and the EV quality lens that Nikon uses which allows the full color spectrum to be reproduced accurately. (I actually own the earlier model Coolpix P510 with the 42mm zoom, but they are identical, except this has a longer telephoto, and I believe the ability to use wifi to transfer pictures.)
I take a lot of nature photos and this camera has the longest available lens which is ideal for this. The quality of the pics is typical of Nikon except at the full extension of 83X when it gets a little blurry. Probably they should have stopped at 75X . I have used Canon cameras for years and was happy with them but needed the extra zoom. I think that the picture quality is better in Nikon but the camera body and mechanics has better quality on the Canon. Overall, I am very pleased with this camera.
