After growing skeptical of the record business, Chavis quit music to pursue a successful career training racehorses. His return to the music scene has been a welcome event in the '90s. Remarkably, he manages to continue to extract nuances and subtle shadings from within the boundaries of the zydeco genre, while adding his own musical idiosyncrasies to everything that he does. Boozoo Chavis & The Magic Sounds (a most apt moniker) create relentless grooves that transcend by dint of their fiercely honest exuberance.
