I have used this product since Kodak came out with it. This was an exceptional price and value!
i havent had the pleasure of using cf cards so i cant comment on the bent pins. i can tell you that i use the sdhc slot at least once a week and recently just started using the micro sd slot in the past 2 months. since i have ordered this reader in may 2011, i use it weekly without any problems. most of the cards read on this reader are either sandisk, kingston, pny, polaroid or amazon basic cards. never a read problem or excessive damage to my cards.
I returned it- your process was very good. I bought another type from you and it works fine.
The main reason I wanted this reader was because of the direct USB connection - I wanted something small that would not take up much space and that I could just leave plugged in to my computer when not in use. This fit the bill and it was cheap. Despite the price, being a Kodak product I really expected it to still be a high quality product. I have not even had it for a full month yet and already it's useless for my CF card. One of the prongs in the middle of the CF port on the reader bent somehow (the CF card never did just easily slide into place, almost like the reader is not *quite* the right size for it) and of course now I can't use it. Sometimes you really do get what you pay for, even when the product is from a brand that typically offers high quality products. I'll be getting something better.
If you have an older computer that doesn't have a SD card reader, this is a perfect solution. It is super simple: open the package, plug into USB port, and insert memory card. Your computer will prompt you when it recognizes that a new device has been connected, and all you have to do is follow its instructions in order to upload your pictures, or whatever information you are transferring. It couldn't be simpler. And at around five dollars, it couldn't be more affordable. There are more expensive options, but they don't seem to be necessary considering this piece of equipment is sturdy and well made, and reads almost any type of memory card one could have.
