The Samsung Galaxy Tab A is a great tablet. The battery life is wonderful. The screen display is crisp and clear. I stream quite a bit and have been loving the size of the screen and the sound quality is great! Setup was quick and easy. I would recommend this tablet for any age!
If you’re looking for a tablet that can keep up with your online activity that is not bulky but yet not too small, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A is for you. With its 8.0 inch display, it’s big enough to clearly present your content on a screen that you can hold with one hand freeing up your hand for surfing the different apps or simply to hold your drink. This tablet is equipped with an Android operating system, a Quad Core (2.0GHz) processor and a 2GB of RAM which empowers it to handle all the tasks you would throw at it, from browsing the web, to playing music and movies not to mention playing board games, Candy Crush, etc…. With a crisp screen and clear sound engineered with Dolby Atmos surround sound format and two speakers, you’re guaranteed a pleasurable experience and the best part is, I didn’t need to spend hours figuring out complicated adjustment settings. Out of the box, the sound and display were of amazing quality. The Samsung Galaxy Tab A comes with a strong Li-Ion 5,100mAh battery and an expandable internal storage. You get 32GB of storage space but you can add a MicroSD card up to 512GB. That’s a lot of songs, movies and pictures. Speaking of pictures, this tablet has two cameras. A 2.0 MP front camera and an 8.0 MP rear camera and a Full HD 1920 x 1080 video recording resolution. The main camera has an auto focus feature and you could add a floating shutter button so you can easily snap a picture. So far I’m pleased with the picture quality (see attached wishing well photo). The tablet comes with a charger and is equipped with an ear jack and a charging port. It also features an adaptive brightness feature that would adjust the screen brightness based on the existing lighting to relive stress on the eyes. To summarize, if you don’t like tablets with a bulky design and don’t want to compromise performance, give the Samsung Galaxy Tab A a try, you won’t regret it. Whether I’m surfing the web, taking pictures or playing a movie, this Tab delivered and without breaking the bank.
I love this lightweight handy tablet! The initial setup is super simple since it shows you step by step directions. Did a couple software updates that it prompted me to do, again easy. The android operating system allows me to adjust the age appropriate content so my lil one can use safely as well. Overall the picture and sound are great too! Came with a micro sb charger and i ordered a case for it to keep it safe while in my lil ones hands.. look for T290 while searching for the correct case. Again, soo super happy with my new Galaxy!
(Please excuse the quality of the screenshots, I have cheap screen protector on the tablet, but you can still see the clarity of the display, which is even more impressive in person). The 2019 Galaxy Tab 8 Tablet is a good starter tablet for three groups of people: 1. People that are new to tablets and want a form factor that is convenient and easy to carry, but offers greater display size over their cell phone. Eight inches may not sound like much if you have a 6.5 inch phone, but it truly does open up alot more use cases and is far easier on the eyes. 2. People who have a larger tablet and want something smaller for reading in bed, keeping in the car, or on a side table etc, without feeling that they risk the theft of an expensive unit. At approx $129 the 2019 galaxy tab is not going to break the bank if it gets lost or stolen. 3. Children that are new to tablets, need (or want) a true android experience and need something capable of handling most of the latest games and apps with ease. Beyond that, most other people would probably want to look at the stronger, faster, and/or larger offerings of Samsung and Apple for the best tablet experience. PROS: 1. Great price for Samsung quality, specifically Glass front, aluminum back, plastic frame... feels really solid in the hand. Note: It (arguably) does not get much better than Samsung for Android or Apple for iPadOs (Note: Apple IOS was recently split into IOS for iphones and iPadOs for tablets as development will likely diverge to take advantage of each type of devices strengths). 2. Really nice, clear and bright 8.0 inch TFT display. 3. Solid recent gen quad-core proceesor (Quad-core 2.0 GHz Cortex-A5) 4. 2GB of RAM which is now definitely needed for the latest apps to run smoothly. 5. Small and Light at a weight of 345 grams (12 ounces) and dimensions of 210mm x 124.4mm x 8 mm ( 8.27 x 4.90 x 0.31 in). 6. Expandable storage via built-in MicroSD slot (upto 512GB MicroSD cards are supposedly supported). 7. Decent 8MP camera on back and 2MP on front (but see cons regarding camera quality). 8. Nice array of sensors: Bluetooth 4.2 LE (low energy) with AD2P, GPS, as well as an Accelerometer. 9. Runs latest Android (as of this review date) called Android 9.0 (Pie)... and supposedly will support (at least) the next version of Android (version 10) CONS: 1. Very difficult to grip with a case... mainly due to the rounded edges... this is remedied by a good case and most people go that route anyway. 2. Only 32GB of internal storage... while (as mentioned) it does have a microSD slot, there are limitations as to what the microSD card can be used for (versus it’s internal storage)....part of this is by Samsung’s design , so Samsung could eventually loosen the restrictions... Example: Apps must be stored on internal storage...of which approx 12GB is already used out of the box by the Android operating system... this is primarily the biggest non-hardware related complaint since this is not an Android restriction, but rather (as far as I have read) a restriction intentionally placed on this tablet by Samsung. NOTE: Due to the massive complaints about this issue, there us a chance (albeit a very small one) that Samsung could release a firmware patch to remove this restriction. 3. Speakers are quite anemic... Only two speakers at the base and even at max volume you would need to be in a fairly quite room to hear everything clearly. Headphone jack located at top mitigates this to a degree. 4. Screen resolution is low even compared to most cellphones at only 800x1280 pixels. Note screen is quite bright and very easy to read, but certainly very far away from retina level resolution. 5. Cameras are serviceable, but suffer from serious motion blur especially at less than ideal lighting conditions (think indoor lighting). BREAK-EVEN features (good or bad depending on your situation): 1. MicroUSB connector, not USB-C : The good is most people have plenty of MicroUSB cables and accessories already, the downside in USB-C is the future, is reversible, and much, much faster. CONCLUSION: A good solid, quality, inexpensive tablet at a very affordable price from one of the most reputable manufacturers in the industry. Great starting point for people new to tablets or those needing smaller (and inexpensive) second tablet for basic reading, surfing, news, youtube streaming, movies watching, etc. HOWEVER, not a great option for people who use a lot of different apps or use demanding apps. Also, not a good choice for those who require either a high quality camera (though quite good for stills, and video chatting) and/or a tablet with powerful speakers.
This tablet is an extension if you own a galaxy phone, in which case I do. Samsung could have done a better job with this tablet in my opinion. There is no NFC transfer on this tablet so you will have to transfer all your files through a USB cord. Also the camera is not great in low light settings. If you want a tablet to listen to music and watch YouTube on, this is fine for that. Checking emails are a breeze and it makes Instagram look fabulous. Overall I'm satisfied with it.
