The vacuum works great for the most part. suctions well. however, i bought this less than a year ago and am sad to see it decline in quality so quickly. i use this everyday as i have used my other shark vacuums everyday as well. this one however has been such poorly made… the cord is ripping in three spots after under a year of use. i already had to replace the dust cup because the latch to release the dirt, broke. now the cord is ripping and the rubber seal to the detachable handle has come off a bit and was catching dog hair and clogging the hose… thoroughly disappointed in this model. i've had 3 shark vacuums before this and was able to get at least 2yrs out of each!!! also, i've never received my steam mop.
BEWARE! HIGHLY PERFUMED! I thought the odor neutralizer would be like baking soda, but it is very heavily fake scented, and you must use it for the vacuum cleaner to work. Even if you take it out, the unit is still very perfuming and lingers. Opening the package, put me into an ASTHMA COUGHING AND HEADACHE DAY! If you are sensitive to fragrance, do not buy this !
I have had my vacuum for a couple months and I will say the suction is unbeatable. I love that the detector can tell when you are up against a wall and will adjust the suction to grab even more. I like that the felt roller is able to dust the hard floors and I have not noticed any debris getting kicked out from behind like some vacuums can do. Now, there are a few cons compared to my other shark vacuums. First it is noticeably heavier and I will say you really need some muscle to use this thing. It will take over! I'm not happy with how short and tight the hose is being that I have tall ceilings, but even more disappointing is when you use the wand the machine always falls over. Also, it is impossible to vacuum an area rug without it getting stuck inside and causing the safety shut down to go on so then you have to turn the vacuum off and back on to get the rollers to turn back on. Even when I adjust the suction manually. The buttons seem to be in a convenient place but somehow I manage to accidentally change the buttons by the way I am holding the handle since they are sensor buttons. I usually love to vacuum but I find myself yelling at this one more often than not. I have always loved shark vacuums but this time I made the wrong choice because I thought it sounded as close to a Kirby vacuum as you can get ( which I also have owned and have been on the hunt for something close to it). My first choice was to get the stratos but then I read about this. I'm not giving up on shark but this one just doesn't make me happy to clean!
This is my 5th or 6th Shark vacuum; 3 stars because the good things about the unit are really good; If you don't have need to vacuum any area rugs or stairs, this is an excellent choice. I purchased the unit 2 months ago & would return it if I could. FYI: I vacuum almost daily because I have a dog that sheds a lot & I am in good shape, so I generally don't get too concerned about the weight of a unit. The good: This vacuum has great suction and works fantastic on carpet; it sucks up dog food without pushing it around (huge plus!); it sucks up dirt going both forward and back (although back is still better) and the fact that it's converts to a wand vac is pretty awesome. The not so good: The unit is heavy, but I don't' find it overly prohibitive - except on stairs, even with lift away, it would be too much for folks with any sort of weakness. My 81 YO mom has trouble with this vacuum but not my other Shark vacuum. As for the really bad: If you have area rugs - DO NOT BUY this unit. Even adjusting the setting to decrease the suction doesn't help much; small area rugs are a big problem; the roller gets caught up and you need to turn off the unit & cycle it back on (after you get the rug out of the vacuum) to reset the roller portion of the vacuum. Larger area rugs are hit and miss (10x12 are mostly ok; long runners can also be problematic) The Detect technology is great in theory, but fails in practice. I have tried it several times; the suction cycles down with less dirt and up with more dirt (so the vacuum kind sounds like it's turning on and off, but it's not). The transitional spots almost always need to be vacuumed again because dirt gets missed as the speed changes. There is the option to just select the setting wanted and have it stay put, so I just do that but I am NOT a fan of the Detect technology. Overall, I wouldn't buy it again or any Shark with this type of technology.
Bought this vacuum a month ago. It does have great suction but I do not like that when you vacuum against a wall or furniture the motor kicks into high gear and is loud and then kicks off and repeats constantly. Its very annoying. Power cord is very stiff and when releasing handle to vacuum couch with the wand the vacuum tips over. Ive always liked my shark vacuums but not sure I care for this one.
