Singer 7640 Confidence 200-stitch Sewing Machine

I was deeply disappointed with the Singer Confidence and I wouldn't suggest that anyone purchase it! To begin with, some years ago I purchased a Singer Stylist and I have had no troubles with it. It has worked and worked without a hitch (as we say) or any trouble and this was the main reason why I decided to purchase the Singer Confidence -- My mistake! With the singer stylist there was an instructional manual provided free, along with a DVD called Ready, Set, Sew. and which was all about the machine With the Confidence - nothing. Just the machine in the box -- Nothing else! There wasn't even a piece of paper included that would point me to a web site that would explain the stitches and the like! I then took the initiative to search out the site for the Singer Confidence on line, I think that by now I have figured out about the stitches and how to set their lengths an so on. But one of the most discouraging things about the Confidence was its inability to thread needles (*by using the automatic needle threader. Because I am getting older my eyesight is not as good as it used to be. But I said that's no problem , the Confidence with its automatic needle threader will fix that. You can easily imagine my disappointment to find that the needle threader doesn't work! Apparently the tiny 'hook' piece which is supposed to go into the eye of the needle doesn't ! It seems to pass by the needle to one side doing nothing. It seems that the tiny 'hook' piece my be bent so that it misses the needle altogether. You can imagine my dismay (and possibly anger) when I realized this. The Needle up or down feature is there but the button is so much like the others nearby that I don' bother to use it. Likewise the reverse button is hidden somewhere withe the others and it is not easily seen . ( usually hit the wrong one every time. I suppose that i'll get better as time goes along, but it should't have to be this way I only wish the automatic Needle threader worked like it should . This way I would not be facing years of 'squinted' eyes as I try to thread the needle! To say I'm disappointed would perhaps be an understatement. DISGUST might be a more appropriate term

Having been used to a 30 year old Kenmore, repeated jams and broken needles, I found sewing a dreaded chore. My new Confidence 7640 is a pleasure to sew with. It automatically adapts to different thicknesses and has many computerized stitches that were not available to me on my old machine. The accessories make sewing buttonholes and zippers much easier. I have only used it a couple times since receiving it a few weeks ago and look forward to sewing more in the future. There are several videos on You-Tube that help walk you through the basics. The only inconvenience I found is the machine does not come with a manual - you need to go to the website to download or print a PDF.

I had the sewing machine for two weeks, and started having problems with the stitching not going right. I tried to adjust my thread tension on every number available and it still was not doing as it should. I am out of town now, and when I do return home, hopefully, I can try it out again. If not, I will be returning the machine back to Walmart. I previously had a Singer Fashion Mate for 50 years and had to oil it twice!

I simply love my new sewing machine. The footpedal that came with it didn't work but a simple phone call got me a replacement that works just great. I've already made my first machine quilt on it. I would definitely recommend the sewing machine to any begining machine quilter.

I received my machine and I love it. The day after Christmas I made two pillows. On the last pillow the foot peddle when out, it just stopped working. I dontwant to send my machine back just to get the foot peddle replaced. Also there was not a manual in the machine box. Can someone please help me.
