Sportsman Series Gasoline 4000-Watt Portable Generator

I bought the Sportsman generator in August 2015, and the first generator arrived completely destroyed, but with no damage to the packaging. Obviously it was damaged before it was packed and shipped out. The second generator failed in 3 months and Buffalo Tool told me I had to fix it myself. They said they do not have a return warranty policy so they had me remove the manifold and do a repair, which did not fix the problem. They then instructed me to remove a panel and look to see if the solenoid had any burn marks or scaring and of so, they said I would have to replaced myself. (What?!?!?!?!) They then wanted to send me new carbon brushes, but said I had to pay someone to have the brushes installed if I could not do it myself. After much back-and-forth conversations, Buffalo Tool FINALLY agreed to have the generator returned for repair, but I had to go out and buy a box to ship it back in. After not hearing back from them I called 2 weeks after they received the failed generator and they said they had not looked at it yet. The next day they called and said their technician reports the generator could not be repaired so they were sending me a replacement generator. The third generator, which was not the same model I originally paid for, arrived in a box that was not for the third generator shipped – but rather was in a box for a much smaller generator. The top of the box was not closed and sealed properly due to the box being too small. Also, there was no proper packing materials other than some bubble wrap. This third generator arrived in pieces. I called and sent pics to Buffalo Tool and they said they would have to send me the replacement part for what was broken. That was almost 2 months ago. I have called and emailed multiple times and each time I am told they do not have the part and that it comes from China and they cannot send it to me until they get it. Yesterday I called Buffalo Tool and shared how upset I am that this fiasco has been going on for almost 9 months and they said their technician was out to lunch and would call me back. They called back and left a message that the one person in their entire company who can determine if they have the part in stock is out for the day and they will have to call me back! So... if you want a piece of junk generator and be treated with awful and horrible customer service, and also be subjected to a total lack of support, then this is the generator for you. Otherwise, do what I ended up doing and buy a totally different brand of generator so you can have one that actually works.)

Our power goes out several times a year. We bought this just for that reason. Of course our power has not gone out since we bought it (figures). We did get it ready just in case. We mounted it in back of our house on 6 12 X 12 inch concrete slabs with chain and lock for security. We added oil and had my 110 lb wife star it first. It took two pulls and fired up. I tested the power output by hooking up a 5 HP air compressor. I swear it filled up the empty tank fasted than hooking up to our standard electrical power with no signs of strugle. I plan to only hook up our sump pump and rerigerator during power outage. I'm an electronic engineer and would recommend a ups power device if you plan to use a TV or computer. We lost over $600 on food and water damage durring the last outage so it will pay for itself the first time I use it. Its also great for remote power for anything useing 110v.

I have owned a similar generator to this one in the past.This is a great little unit and produces plenty of power. This unit was shipped very quickly and was 1 day early in arriving.. I would recommend this generator to any one because of it's reliability and quality.

We have not had a need to use the generator yet...it is a second in case of hurricane or long loss of electricity...it started right up and though heavy is where it will be used if needed...we can not really give a ruling other than to say we are not disappointed in our purchase and the price was reasonable--which means a lot to us on fixed incomes. The service and delivery time were excellent
