Prior to recieving these cups I had turn to mugs and short glass cups for added weight to prevent spills. These cups have a suction gadget on the bottom that only releases if the cup is lifted slowly and upright (like you hope your toddler lifts a cup) This suction gadget completely prevents spills side to side for this reason. There is a small learning curve however; My 12 month old could not figure it out (this is the age marketed on the cup). My almost two year old struggled for a few days as well but eventually mastered it. My energetic 3 year figured it out with ease and it was great for her! So I recommend if your looking for cups for age 2 or 3. One star was removed because I could not find a way to remove the suction gadget to clean it throughly. While this isn't the drinking part it does still get wet via the wash and I'd like to prevent crevices from not getting cleaned or dried well.
