When I saw the price I kinda thought "yikes", but you get what you pay for!!!! The BIGGEST benefit for me, at my Senior age, is the EASE of operation!!! Both forward and back are powered!!! Then there's the Honda engine, which we ALL know will generally out-live its owner!!!!! The first couple years I only ran it in the Spring, and even though it sat up in the meantime, it fired RIGHT up!!!!!! The Counter-Rotation pulls the tines into the dirt so you don't have to press down!!!!! I don't think there's a better tiller ANYWHERE!!!!! And by the way, I live in pure CLAY!!!!! 5 STARS!!!!!!
I bought this machine about a year ago to replace my old bronco which I thought after 25yrs had locked up. It's still working today for my cousin. Anyhow back to the Proline. This machine digs in fast and works hard. Easy to use but could be made a lot more effective if it had frame weights like my old Bronco had. It needs weight over the tires to help pull it forward. I find myself pushing it as it would dig straight to China Love the machine wish you made frame weights!
I've work on small motors for over 50 years, the tiller is a great one, but your design for 1 speed is a bad design! I had to remove the jet and enlarge the hole to allow more gas for the desired speed I wanted, you should go back to Briggs engines where there is an adjustment at the very bottom of the bowl to increase or decrease the amt. of gas by turning a thumb screw! In the future if I do not see an improvement in your carb design then I'll look else where for a piece of power eq. that has what I want!
This is my second Troy-Bilt tiller. I use to have a front-end tiller and when I first used my Troy-bilt I was about ready to return it. BUT, once I got use to using my Troy-Bilt I will never go back to the old front-end tillers. It is so easy to use on well established gardens, I can use one hand to operate the tiller. I've had no major issues with the tiller. Just replaced the two belts after using the tiller for several years. No problem starting the tiller after sitting over the winter. I would highly recommend buying the Troy-Bilt tiller.
Bought this tiller a couple weeks ago, thinking it was time for a new machine and would do a great job tilling up the garden... boy was I wrong! used it once for less than half an hour, the counter rotating tines shredded, tore the metal away from the bolt that holds the rotating tines on the shaft. The first problem is having the tines go in reverse and poor/weak metal design in my opinion, for the extra added stress on the machine. This was in a garden that is existing for years, and was tilled up in the fall, so the soil was soft before we begin tilling. No roots or big debris, just a few small stones half the size of the average palm of your hand, The reverse tines pull up debris and small stones into the tiller body itself causing extra stress on the machine. I cannot see this machine breaking hard packed ground, if it cannot do soft soil. I do not recommend the counter rotating tines, giving this a one star rating is being generous! With that said, we do own a 16" forward rotating rear tine tiller from troybilt bought back in the 1980's and are back using it in the same garden, never once had a single issue with it. Wore out 3 sets of tines from regular use, that thing is a tank! If I were to recommend a tiller, buy the forward rotating rear tine tiller, you will save yourself a lot of headache! Also The dealer is letting us put the money spent on this machine toward the troybilt forward rotating tine tiller, which I am very pleased about, hoping it stands up just the same as our 1980's tiller.
