Employed this tool to dig holes for planting 1700 flower bulbs, and it was a lifesaver! It worked exceptionally well, even navigating through the ground with some small tree roots. Just remember to proceed slowly and take your time. If it gets stuck in the dirt, which can happen occasionally, be prepared to release it quickly as the top may whip around.
Durable and robust! I'm a 5'11", 140lb individual who used a 12-inch bit with a 20-inch extension, and I had no difficulty handling it by myself, even when encountering rocks or bricks. I managed to auger around 25 post holes with a 12-inch diameter, and the brushes are still in excellent condition.
I used to rely on a post hole clam shell digger for my garden, a practice spanning many years. At 64, the labor involved in manually creating 2-foot deep holes for 200 tomato plants and 6-inch deep holes for 275 hot and sweet peppers became quite strenuous. Being an enthusiast in crafting my own tomato puree for sauce and bottling hot sauces, I explored battery-powered augers, but their reviews left me skeptical about their longevity. Avoiding gas models due to safety concerns, I sought an affordable option with ample power for the task at hand. After careful consideration, I settled on a reasonably priced auger that proved to be a game-changer. The 4-inch bit was ideal for my plants, allowing me to drill 100 two-foot deep holes in just an hour, all without tilling the soil. This efficiency was a stark contrast to the limitations of the post hole digger. A valuable lesson learned through experience: when using the auger, ensure a secure grip held at arm's length away from the body. I had a close call when it caught a root, and the handle struck the inside of my thigh. While it could have been worse, this incident highlighted the importance of caution. One standout feature of this unit is its ability to "Jog It," allowing for gradual drilling with each press and release of the switch. Once accustomed to this function, the process becomes remarkably easy. In retrospect, this online purchase ranks among the best I've made in many years.
It's great that this tool is easy to use - just plug it in and pull the trigger. My old 2-cycle gas-powered tool was useless; it never started, and the hoses rotted out. This electric tool is much better. However, I have many augers of different sizes from my gas-powered tool, and they're too loose on this one. I tried wrapping aluminum tape around the shaft, which kind of worked, but it's still loose. It would be really helpful if they included an adapter to fit standard augers, or even sold one.
An excellent tool for creating post holes, planting bushes, and boring holes in general. Simple to use, you just let it go down 5-7 inches at a time and then pull up. It performs optimally in dry conditions, and it's important to be mindful of roots and larger rocks. Suitable for both a 70-year-old husband and a 65-year-old wife!
