Rayman 2 simply looks stunning. Ubi Soft's colorful 3D action game has some of the most incredible visual design in any game ever. Its lush environments are vaguely recognizable as forests, coasts, plains, and caverns, but their surreal geometry and vibrant color lend them an entirely unique appearance that's only consistent from level to level in that it's consistently impressive. Rayman 2's cast of characters is also composed of relatively simple geometric shapes, but so too does it defy convention. And thanks to the game's remarkable and oftentimes hilarious animation, the characters are instantly endearing and even lifelike, in spite of themselves. Because they're three-dimensional, the characters seem even more tangible compared with those of recent animated films. It's little wonder that the game inspired an animated series, because the fact is, Rayman 2's artistic design eclipses every game released in 1999.
