It's easy to start a water garden with an assortment of three different colored water lilies. Large red flowers remain open from the middle of the morning until late afternoon and deepen in color as the days go by. White cup-shaped blooms float effortlessly on the water just above green, nearly circular-shaped leaves that are notched in the center. White flowers with bright yellow stamens bloom from June through August, remain open from mid-morning until late afternoon, and last several days. Light yellow flowers float gently on the surface of the water above green lily pads mottled with red. As the days progress, the light yellow changes to deep orange and then turns to a coppery red. During the heat of the day, the pads provide much-needed shade for aquatic life. The plants help supply oxygen to the water while helping minimize algae blooms. They're easy to grow and pre-planted in weighted net bags. Just drop the plants in the desired place in the pond.
