It would seem logical that a film as highly regarded and cinematically influential as Sergei Eisenstein's The Battleship Potemkin would receive some sort of quality presentation on DVD, but sadly, that's not the case with the disc from Image Entertainment. Other than a written essay contained on the packaging, there are no supplemental features. A historian's commentary? No. A documentary on where this film fits in cinematic history? Nope. Nothing, and that is clearly a shame. As for the image, there is probably little that can be done for a film from 1925. Even restoration completed in 1976 leaves an image that is good, but certainly shows signs of age. Scratches and dirt are clearly evident, but for the most part, it looks decent. The sound, utilizing a mono track, includes only the orchestration, of course, and is strong. This classic from the silent period of Soviet cinema truly deserves more detail. Hopes run high that it will receive it some day.

Description

Hysterical 1940s classic comedy starring Jimmy Stewart, Paulette Goddard and Horace Heidt. Based on the radio show of the period, Pot O Gold is an amusing look at a failed music store owner, Jimmy Stewart and his uncle Horace Heidt, owner of a food factory who wants Stewart to come to work for him. Before Stewart goes to work for his uncle, he befriends an Irish family who are his uncles worst nightmare, as they are in-house musicians and always practicing. Stewart finds himself helping the band by placing them on his uncle's radio show, and works to reconcile the family with his uncle, an avid music-hater. The radio show has promised to give away $1,000 every week, and then things begin to get very complicated.
