I never would have attempted a rag quilt before owning this die. I've cut flannel and minky squares for several rag quilts both for me and for Christmas gifts this year. All I need to do is add batting and sew them up! I can't imagine clipping these squares by hand. Owning an Accuquilt cutter has expanded my pattern and technique options more than any other quilting tool I have used.
End up doing a lot of cutting with scissors to complete cuts. Bought this because I was trying to avoid this. Have arthritic hands. I love all my d my straight cut dies except the 2-12” square one. Same issues with it. I would hesitste to buy any with multiple small cuts.
I was so excited to see a rag square die but after cutting only 6 squares it needed to be picked clean because it was not cutting in certain areas. Well I have arthritis in my hands and to hold a pick without damaging the foam is next to impossible for me. I would rather cut a normal square and use spring scissors before I use this die. I am hoping the store will allow me to return it.
I couldn't wait until I received this die. I have used it for making lovely sized patchwork cushion covers for the drawing room. I used four separate contrasting colour cuts for the cushion cover, one I made with alternating colours on front and back, the other cushions I used flowered fabric for the 4 fronts and plain material for the backs. This die is very, very versatile and would recommend to beginners especially.
this is faster than hand clipping all the fringes, but not as quick & easy as the other dies...cuts fewer layers than other dies & needs loose threads picked out every 3-4 cuts, so it is not the speed & ease of non ragged blocks, but still easier than clipping the old way (however even with a single layer of fabric still had to do a fair amount of hand cutting where the die did not)
