Our Purpose: To eliminate systemic poverty in Latin America through responsible trade of artisanal organic foods. Philosophy: We are market makers for small farmers, connecting them directly to the market, bypassing middlemen that do not add value but take profit from farmers. Approach: We began in 1997 working directly with small farmers in organized cooperatives that focus on organic, shade-grown, specialty coffees. As we continue to build these direct relationships with our farmers, we focus on supporting diversified agriculture and always pay a fair price for high-quality coffee. Once the coffee reaches us, we roast it in small batches at our state-of-the-art, organic-certified facility located in Rockville, Maryland. Results: The coffee that you are holding represents the top 3% of coffees available worldwide - all roasted to perfection by hand. Our efficient, forward-thinking and direct supply chain ensures that you are paying a price that is fair to you while our farmers are getting paid prices that reward them for their hard work. As a child, Martin Mayorga spent time at Nicaraguan cigar factories with his father, interacting with Cuban cigar makers who had fled Castro's government in the 1960's. He recalled men playing dominos, talking about their plight in leaving their home country, and drinking a distinctly dark, syrupy coffee. Later on, when the Mayorga family moved to the US, Martin was able to appreciate firsthand this rich coffee while spending time with his father and other Cuban immigrants in Little Havana. Our 100% Organic Cafe Cubano is an homage to the culture and flavors that Martin still appreciates, which brings him back memories of his father and others who fled their governments to find freedom in the United States. This profile is achieved by using high-quality coffees from Latin America.
