Listed by D.M. Ferry & Company in 1880. Ferry noted, "This is a very productive variety that is grown extensively for pickles. The vines are vigorous. The fruits are bright green, medium sized, very smooth and symmetrical. The flesh is crisp and tender." Shipped by the millions to New York City at the turn of the century. Fruits measure 2-1/2 inches by 5 - 7 inches long. 58-70 days. Seed Saving Instructions: Cucumbers will cross-pollinate, so isolate 1/4 mile from other cucumbers. Fruits for seed should ripen past edible stage and begin to soften and turn yellow. Cut lenghtwise, scoop out seeds, wash clean and dry on a paper plate. Seeds are ready to store when they break instead of bend.
