This collection re-tools CabVolt's vituperative mid-'80s synth-funk period, highlighting tracks from THE CRACKDOWN, MICRO-PHONIES, and the DRINKING GASOLINE EP. "24-24" and "Crackdown" ovulate and chirp upon carriages of stripped-down rhythm, as Kirk re-designs the soundscapes surrounding them in realization of contemporary digital beat mosaics. "Kino" gets the most radical re-vamping of the bunch, as the hard-funk sequencers of yesteryear return in full, brute force. "I Want You" appears twice, one version disassembled and re-constituted CabVolt-style, the other given a widescreen sweep and swirl via the machines of Altern-8, who whip up the track's acid rain into a veritable radioactive windstorm. Galloping synths sound the trumpet call to advance, robot voices are engulfed in the void, and the apocalypse begins.
