Typically it would be about 6-8 feet from the end of the unit. There are two basic types of surfacing materials considered to be acceptable for playground surfacing, unitary and loose-fill. Unitary materials are generally rubber mats or a combination of rubberlike materials held in place by a binder that may be poured in place at the playground site. Loose-fill materials include, but are not confined to, sand, gravel, and shredded wood products.
