Season Three (1976-77) of the four-season CBS situation comedy Rhoda marked a pivotal turning point in the program's history. After two seasons that depicted comedic events from the lives of happily married couple Rhoda Morgenstern Gerard (Valerie Harper) and Joe Gerard (David Groh), series producers James L. Brooks and Allan Burns decided that married life wasn't nearly as amusing as single life, and began the season with Rhoda and Joe undergoing a separation and then a divorce. This season thus marked a return to the basic format that Rhoda's parent series, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, had occupied for most of its run - and episodes depicted Rhoda and sister Brenda's (Julie Kavner) various exploits in the singles scene. This was also the season that introduced the supporting character of Sally Gallagher (Anne Meara), a 39-year-old airline stewardess who befriended Rhoda, as well as Johnny Venture (Michael Delano), a Las Vegas lounge singer whom Rhoda dated. This box set contains all 24 episodes from the third season of Rhoda, as they originally aired, mastered from new high-definition transfers.
