After the Enterprise scans an ancient comet, alien artifacts begin appearing around the ship. The crew investigates, but is unable to identify the strange objects. Later, Geordi (LeVar Burton) learns that some alien information was downloaded into the ship's computers during the scan. A phaser blast to the comet's outer shell reveals a nearly solid metallic object covered with strange icons which Data (Brent Spiner), inexplicably, can read. When one of the symbols appears on Data's forehead, he begins to exhibit signs of multiple personalities. Identifying himself as "Ihat," he warns the crew to leave the area or "Masaka" will destroy the ship. Now Picard (Patrick Stewart) must discern who is behind Data's mask before it's too late.
