WD - My Cloud EX2 Ultra 12TB 2-Bay RAID External Network Hard Drive - Charcoal

When I tried to register the drive the S/N came up invalid. It appears that either the factory never input it or Walmart is selling bootleg merchandise. I am currently fighting with Western Digital (Horrible customer service!) about either getting it registered or replacing it. I wrote to their CEO. I may have to return this one to Walmart.

This is an excellent addition to anyone with multiple computers in the household who need a place to backup their data to. It is also an easy receptacle for saving hundreds of videos to use in your theatre room or man-cave. All you have to do is plug in the power and attach an ethernet patch cord to your router, and then just treat it like a thumb drive that is plugged into the computer your using.

This is the third WD NAS I have owned and have had no issues at all with any of them. Each gets better than the prior one, especially the OS and UI. Very fast and stable. Over the last 40 years, I've tried a number of other HD manufacturers and found that WD is hands down the best.

I have been very happy with my WD My Cloud. When the upgrade notice came out, I purchased the My Cloud Ultra EX2 Ultra after returning the My Cloud Home as, I was advised by tech support the Ultra EX2 was a DLNA device and would work with the Roku media player, which the My Cloud Home did not. In order for the EX2 Ultra to support the Roku media player, the Twonky media server must be installed. Twonky's file system is not as robust as the My Cloud, and adding share files is not reliable. At the same time, the Ultra EX2 works well remotely. As a result, I am running the old My Cloud for local files and the Ultra EX2 to accest my files remotely. I'm currently searching for one device to handle both reliably.

Nice unit but I have had to restart it twice in the two weeks I have owned it because my iMac would not back up to the device. The iMac Time Machine software complained of an error. When I looked up the error, others have had the same problem. One of the files on the disk apparently remains locked to it can no longer accessed. The only solution I found was to restart the device. This is highly inconvenient when I am on the road.
