i bought this product for school lectures. it works great. the only problem i had with this was getting it to work on my computer. it said i had no driver for this software (i have windows 7) so i went to esupport.sony.com and clicked on drivers, it took me to a link to tell it what i have and i went from there. now it works great and i can hear my teacher loud and clear on my computer.

I am a Pastor and I used a small (obsolete) 256meg mp3 player to record my teachings and to listen to teaching from other Bible teachers. This unit was great but the memory size and not having a built in speaker were a problem at times. This Sony has a gig of memory and with the quality setting adjustments, I can load many more teachings onto it and have plenty of room to record my own. I still haven't learned how to use all the functions it has but it is much easier to navigate through the menus than the older one I used. I don't know how good music sounds when down loaded but on the hq setting, it sounds very clean when using headphones. I just wish I had ordered it from this site as I could have saved a few bucks. The built in mic will pick up all around the room but if it is important to pick up the voices of others in the room, don't turn on the vor function. I tested using it that way to record a table discussion and the people that don't speak up loud enough don't activate it. They do, however, get picked up while in the normal mode. The old Iriver recorder I was using set me back over twice as much as this little beauty. I feel it is a very good value for so much versatility.

This unit has a good sound quality, lots of memory, plenty of features, and the batteries last a long time. The one thing I don't care for is the noise thats recorded if you hold this unit in your hand while recording. That fact that it has a platic shell is the cause of this annoyance. If your going to record for prolonged period of time you'll want to lay it down on a stable surface so as not to handle it. Another way to avoid this problem would be to buy a steel bodied device instead of this one. Of course those unit are way more money, so it's all a matter of what you want to spend. If you're looking for something thrifty then this would be a good choice. It's small size is what I was looking for. It's a pretty good buy all in all and I'd have to say I would recomend this one.

Good catch of voice even low voices from some good distance. Its not that small in size. hate it has AAA batteries hope it would have lithium battery. Buy it if you really need it. You wont repent after buying for sure.

A very good value for the price. bought for Mom's BDAY. To record oral histories(she's 85). I think it will serve my purpose well. Long recording time , can download on to computer with enclosed cables- nothing EXTRA to buy!
