I'm very happy with this stud finder after a few uses. I had a cheap basic sensor and would miss studs as often as I found them. This one helps you zero in on the studs with the multiple sensors. I do a left to right reading then a right to left to make sure my mark is still centered. So far I have hit every stud I have tried.
I'm a 63 year old woman and I was attempting to mount a flat screen on the wall and used this to find the studs. I'm not real handy but was able to understand how this works. Where I originally wanted to place the mounts it found wires so moved it over and mounted the tv.
I own a finish carpentry business and use stud finders pretty much all day, every day. I have found the ones made by Franklin Sensor are about the best ones I can find for the lower end ones in this price range. This Hart one is a rebranded Franklin Sensors one and is cheaper and smaller than the "normal" Franklin Sensors ones. Which means it fits in my tool belt better.
This product requires two AAA batteries that are not included, they are very easy to install by depressing the tab on the left side lifting the cover and installing the batteries. The on switch is easily depressed and hold as you scan the wall in search of the studs. There are two live electrical indicators, that flash yellow on each end to alert you to the possibility of power in the area. Scanning too fast can throw a false positive indication of power. I used the finder on paneling to locate some studs and the finder was very accurate in my application. The LED's were very spot on, with the alignment of both sides of the stud. The finder is fairly compact and very lightweight, one handed operation is a breeze. I would install so nonslip strips on the bottom and top of the handhold to make it a little easier to grip and hold, I found that area a little slick for my hands. But, that is my only complaint.
Over the years, I have tried 3 other stud finders and this one is the most accurate. It has 9 censors, 1.5" detection depth, and detects either wood or metal stud centers and edges simultaneously. There is a live electrical warning for safety on either side of the device that lights up. You will need 2 AAA batteries which are not included. It is made in the USA and has a 3 year warranty. I have other Hart tools and am very pleased with the brand.
