This was an old model that you can not upgrade the software on. I tried to return but the Walmart store refused to take the return because they don't do marketplace returns according to the annoyed 20 yr old and her annoyed 21 yr old manager. I sat on the phone with customer care for over an hour and no one would help me finish the return. I am out $35 for a device that doesn't work. All the crappy customer service I put up with to save $1 here and a $1 there was wasted on this one purchase. I'm done with Walmart and their terrible Cust service. It always ends up costing me more time and money in the long run to deal with Walmart.
It worked well to control a few bulbs. But when I tried to add an accessory I ran into a lot of trouble. I was trying to add a Lutron Aurora dimmer which is considered "friends of Hue". I wanted to use it to control 5 Hue lights through the hub. Since this product is considered "friends of Hue" I was not expecting to have any issues. When I connected it to 1-2 lights it worked perfectly. But then the nightmare started. When I tried to control 5 lights it didn't work well. I contacted Lutron support and they were nice and responsive but were not able to solve my problem. They referred me to Philips Hue support who in turn referred me back to Lutron. At no point they were willing to work with each other, although this product is considered "friends of Hue" and this was clearly an integration issue between the two products. Eventually I was able to find a workaround myself which is still not perfect but good enough for me. I hope they would take this review seriously and really get their engineers to resolve the problem.
It clearly states you can control upto 50 lights on one hue bridge. I have 39 and have constant issues. My brother actually had to buy one bridge for each floor of his house. I wish they made Larger one that could control upto 150 lights.. then maybe it would be able to handle up to 80
Ive bought several lights and have come to terms that their tech is inferior and always will be. Communication is terrible, ive had hue products the last couple of years and because i like the idea so much i kept buying more as if issues would eventually go away. Actually issues are worse because it more bulbs/lights/bridges with the same issues. I have decided im just going to go to light switches on a different communication protocol. The idea is great and i would have probably kept sinking money into these but they are more of a headache then they are worth.
First-They upgrades The Controller and basically replaced at no charge an upgraded hardware. Second-the Hue lights with my Dimmer works flawlessly with the second generation controller and with the smooth integration Amazon Alexa this make a nice convenient lighting system.
