As consistant with other reviews, I found the shifting components to be a bit on the shoddy side. It takes a miracle to get this onto the first sprocket. That being said, for a few bucks, it can be replaced and it will then be a top-notch bike! I am short and 'pudgy'...I fit just fine on the bike and feel that it is strong enough to support me while I ride. The seat is more comfortable than it looks...very easy on your 'bum' and back. I have VERY short legs so to get them across all the bars to get on a standard bike is a bit of a challenge for me. Not a problem with this bike...plus I can put my feet on the ground while seated. This makes me feel more in control. I'm not a young'un...just looking for a bit of exercise and something I can do with my grandkids. Thank you for making this affordable! Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the cheap shifting components.
As a recumbent trike rider, I was excited to see a low cost recumbent bike listed at WalMart's website. The two that I ordered arrived promptly at Site-to-Store, though nearly a week apart. . Assembly was relatively simple, but I work on my own bikes. If you are not comfortable working with hand tools, you might want to have your bike assembled by a bike shop. I found that there were a few flaws (expected in a low cost bike) which I fixed during the assembly process. Foremost was adding a few missing loose ball bearings to the front wheel hubs. There were two missing from one front wheel, one one from the other. The rear wheels had all their (uncaged) ball bearings. Other than that, I was able to assemble and ride the bikes without difficulty. . Given the low gearing (7-speed freewheel: 14-28 and cranks: 24, 34, 42) this is NOT a speed demon. It's definitely a comfort bike, but that is why I bought two, to get my wife a comfortable starting ride. For that purpose, it works very well. We can ride together, and the gears are low enough to climb some reasonable suburban hills. The seat is comfortable. With most of the weight on the suspended rear wheel, the bike handles bumps and potholes well. . The frame is welded competently, and the components can be upgraded if desired once they wear out. In the mean time, they work when adjusted. . At the price, it's a steal for anyone wanting to try a recumbent bike without spending $1,000 or more on a new bike. I hope it gets many more people out and riding.
I have had back problems and riding blisters in the past from my previous conventional bike, but, this bike is much more comfortable than a normal bike. However, after putting a few miles on the new Hyper Insight Fitness Bike I have found a few problems with the design. The chain hits the frame which makes quite a bit of noise. I solved this problem with a 1" clear plastic tube, split and tie wrapped to the frame where the chain was rubbing on the bike. The tires are poor quality. I replaced the rear tire with a Kevlar 100psi puncture resistant unit. What a diifference! The bike felt much better instantly. Finally, the speed of the bike has something to be desired. I replaced the crankset with a better quality unit with faster gears. I love this bike. I can ride for a very long way without taking Advil for my back. Everybody loves the style of the bike. I highly recommend it for people who have back problems and just want a comfortable recumbent bike to ride in the neighborhood.
A satisfactory entry level recumbent bicycle. Am 63 years old with a very bad back - and having been riding other recumbent bicycles for three years. I am in agreement that Walmart would be ahead of the game if it installed better components on this bike, and they should have no trouble selling it at a higher price. Their closest competitor of recumbent bicycles starts at several hundred dollars more. I would also suggest that the wheelbase be shortened to no more than 45" so it will fit in a bike rack on the front of most city buses - and revise the seat back support system so that a luggage rack could be installed. It would be better if they had something similiar to what RANS offers.
Just purchased bike and have only had time to sit on it but already love the look and feel and especially the value as I thought I could never afford a recumbent. It turned heads in the store when I picked it up. Good and bad comments from associates but I didn't care, I love it and am excited about the days ahead when I will have time to ride. The purchase and the site-to-store experience was easy and the store associate also put the bike together for me which was very helpful.
