I have spent the last 6 months looking for a quality alternative to the Microsoft/Apple computer empires. I don't WANT to transition to Windows 10, my wife has 4 computers with it and they drive her crazy. I also have a really good iPad, but the lack of a good file system and mouse support has limited its usefulness to me. I have used Android devices for years. They have been promising, but not quite there as far as being good productivity tools. When I read about the Tab S4, I have to say I was pretty skeptical. Several online reviews of the tablet, and especially DeX, were not very positive. They criticized it as being not-quite ready, crashing, and not playing well with various apps. They also said that Android apps themselves are designed for phones and don't work well on a large screen. They are wrong. I spent the afternoon using Microsoft Office and various other productivity apps in full-screen and windowed modes in DeX. No crashes, no problems, it has been rock-solid. The Galaxy Tab S4 has replaced my old PC.If you are so-inclined, you can even use the tablet to do other tasks WHILE you have DeX on running multiple applicatons on a monitor. That's pretty excessive, but you can do it. Several of the reviewers talked about how the S4 slows down when you run multiple versions of Youtube in separate windows. But, who does that, and WHY? From a straight-ahead productivity standpoint, this system has been great, on a tablet that fits in a back pack. Now, a few minor criticisms and points: 1. Everybody says Android tablets are a thing of the past. I sure hope not, because the S4 points the way to a terrific line of PC-capable tablets that could fill a niche for years. BUT, Google is not issuing new OS releases beyond Pie and instead wants everybody to buy a Chromebook. Perhaps Samsung could take Android over? 2. DeX is not invincible. I left DeX on when I turned the tablet off, and it bricked the next morning. I had to do a hard reset to get it back, and since then I always exit DeX before turning it off. 3. Some apps don't run well in DeX. I have an email app that I like that froze in DeX mode. Oh, well. 4. The speakers are good, but not great. I compared the tablet to the Huawei Mediapad M5, and the M5 had obviously better sound and volume. (However, the M5 does not output HDMI and is incapable of driving a monitor without using a mirrorning app over wi-fi, with resulting delays and drops.) Conclusion: The Galaxy Tab S4 was designed for ME, the person who wants an Android to go toe-to-toe with Surface Pros, Macs, and iPads. It does it. I love it!
I have an I pad for work and the Samsung S4 tablet with the keyboard. I am very pleased with the Samsung S4 Tablet. I prefer this over the I Pad. The only down side is the keyboard. Very touchy and is not secure, when docked with the keyboard. The keyboard viewing angle should be better, with the ability to make adjustments, would be beneficial. Also, the pen holder on the keyboard, is a poor design, and the pen keeps dropping out. I don't think anyone in their right mind would design and build this without trying it out. Not very well thought out. Had this for a month now, read the manual, online information and experiment, to learn of find all the functions and features. Everyone should read as much information to be well versed in its capabilities. Having both, has helped with automation of all my gadgets at home. Including my HiFi equipment. Serves many purposes, besides email and internet surfing.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I can't believe how user friendly my S4 tablet has been. I use it as my workplace computer and well as my sports and entertainment connection. The battery life is fantastic and the keyboard connects so easily. This is the first Samsung tablet I have owned and I'm a true believer that it's the best tablet on the market.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The standard that the screen sets for the rest of the device is insanely high, and I'm happy to state that the entirety of the device lives up to the challenge. The tablet is silky smooth to use, has decent battery life and amazing charge rates, is as portable as you'd expect, and is far more powerful. I've been a die-hard laptop-only user in the past, but this tablet is rapidly changing my opinion.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I simply cannot believe how nicely this Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 tablet is designed. It is now my favorite tablet by far, and to be honest I even like it better than our laptop for laptop or computing purposes (like notetaking for example). The Dexmode software makes it very useful to use kind of like a desktop computer, with android apps. Everything about it is top-notch--the clear bright display, the integration with the keyboard (add-on), and the "S" pen works wonderfully too. The S4 is very stylish too. The glass front/screen and the aluminum edges make it feel very expensive (which I guess it is?), and also just stylish and nice. The ports all seem in very good locations, no issues with charging or connecting. The Tab S4's screen really stands out to me. The online info indicates it is a 10.5-inch Super AMOLED screen, and it is simply the brightest and clearest I think I've every seen on a tablet like this. It is fantastic for viewing youtube videos, netflix movies, anything really when you are just sitting around at home or traveling. The small, light footprint of the Tab S4, combined with the great screen make it my tablet of choice now when traveling and needing something to use in a hotel room, on a crowded flight, or anywhere. It just fits in! I've also been impressed with the touchscreen aspects of the screen--so smooth and precise and accurate. And I've never used a stylus to actually "draw" before on a tablet or screen, but the included "S" pen is so nice--just smooth, responsive, no lag at all. Everything just works, and works wonderfully. Another thing about it that is very nice, is what Samsung calls "Dexmode". It lets a person use the tablet just like a laptop or desktop computer. For example, open more than one window at the same time, going to fullscreen mode, and all this while still performing fast without slowing down the tablet. I can now use this tablet (with its small footprint) for tasks I used to lug a laptop around for. For example, once a month I take meeting notes for an organization, and I used to take along a laptop computer. But now I can take this smaller, sleeker tablet, plus the keyboard, and accomplish the same thing in much less space. The S pen that is included is pretty useful too. You can use it for taking notes, drawing or sketching things out, and just to keep your screen from getting smudged by using it instead of your fingertips. Highly recommend this tablet if you're looking for something better than the ordinary!
