It has edges and an opening on one side. It seems durable and strong but it's not as thick as I expected considering it says 2x as thick as others. I would not even waste money on other brands if that's the case. This is a good investment to keep your nice mattress protected during a move.

Wasn't difficult to slide onto mattress, even alone, just took longer. No harsh odor. Protected against dirt, liquids, and stains! Mattress cover is a must!
