Step2 Cakes & Coffee Play Kitchen and Cafe with 40 Piece Accessory Play Set

My toddler loves going to the coffee shop with me so she was so excited to get her own and he able to make me coffee everyday. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

The Cakes & Coffee Kitchen and Cafe is a very cute, modern looking play kitchen with a focus on coffee brewing. My boys, ages 3 and 5, really enjoyed figuring out how the different parts of the kitchen work (register/credit card machine, coffee maker, sound effects on the stove-top.) The accessories that come with the set are basic kitchen needs, though there should be a few more coffee-related add-ins like fake cream and sugar or syrup flavors, like a real coffee shop. My boys LOVE the cupcakes with the interchangeable frosting! The double-sided feature to the kitchen where one kiddo can be the barista, and the other can be the customer, is really entertaining for my kids, but it does create a space challenge when deciding where to put it in my house. The assembly was fairly simple, though it would be nice to have at least small pre-drilled holes to help with this. The Cakes and Coffee Kitchen is a wonderful toy for kiddos to engage in imaginary play. Kids learn so much from pretend play. It helps in developing language skills, vocabulary, social skills, and emotional skills. The modern style and colors are very realistic looking. I am extremely impressed with the appearance and sturdiness of this product. This kitchen does take a while to assemble. My husband did it and it took him almost an hour and a half. Batteries are needed for the sounds the coffee pot and checkout make. The kitchen comes with plates, bowls, utensils, to go coffee cups with sleeves, smoothie cups, tongs, spatula, fruit, cupcakes in a holder, frying pan, and a credit card! I love that all these accessories are included! Another awesome feature is kiddos can play on both sides and at each end of the kitchen. This is great for large families, schools, and play dates. Both my boys are enjoying taking turns working at their Coffee Shop and being a customer. They really like using the checkout machine and credit card. The checkout and coffee pot have very life like sounds. The knobs for the kiddos to turn the appliances on and off also make noise when you turn them. My boys really enjoy all the sounds. We have already had to replace the batteries because my boys use the sounds over and over. My oldest (6) favorite part is making the coffee and pouring it in the to go cups. My youngest (4) gets so excited to bake and sell his cupcakes. They are spending hours each day taking turns and pretending. I am so happy they are sharing without any arguments. This was easy to build and there are so many fun toys included that my daughter could play while I put it together. She loves the cupcakes and making coffe with real coffee brewing sounds. The Point of Sale cash register keeps her entertained and pretending. I also like the colors, great nuetrals for a boy or a girl's room. My girls love it! I am also a private music teacher, so families come into my home weekly, and I have gotten many positive comments about it! The three best features according to my 2 and 3 year old girls: (1) the credit card machine (2) the cupcakes (and the fact that the icing pops off if you want to make them into muffins or if you want to frost the cupcakes yourself!) (3) The tongs. I was very impressed that the coffee pot and the frying pan make different sounds when placed on the same burner! Also, it is so up-do-date, there is a "chip reader" in the credit card machine, so the kids can play just like they see us doing at the store! It took a fair amount of time to assemble, but wasn't too difficult. Just time consuming. It took my husband about 5 hours. (The girls were SO excited to start playing, I took pictures before I put all the fun stickers on it.) The only downside is that it isn't as sturdy as I would like. The small cup-shaped stands it sits on don't seem to be as sturdy as if the whole kitchen were sitting flat on the floor. Overall, I was very impressed, and it has been well-loved by my kids and my music students' siblings! It has been a huge hit for girls and boys ages 1 1/2 through 10 or so and their parents!
