The leader (Sterling Hayden) of the rival Canyon City & San Juan line aims to claim the route through intimidation, vandalism and murder. He and his whiskeyed-up men are looking for a fight... and they find a war. Because the hard-nosed D&RG rail boss (Edmond O'Brien) knows a lot more than how to build and run a railroad.
